Collapse of Lehman Brothers

Workers at Lehman Brothers in New York started to clear their offices on Sunday as the 158-year-old bank went into liquidation.

A few hours later colleagues in London were told to clear their desks as financial markets nose-dived in response to the news which the former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan described as "the worst crisis in a century".
