Gucci wins Chinese copyright case

China is one of the world's largest producers of counterfeit goods

Luxury brand Gucci has won a legal case against Chinese shoe firm Senda for breaching copyright rules, according to Chinese state media.

Senda Group has been ordered by a Chinese court to pay 180,000 yuan (£13,000; $25,700) in damages to Gucci, which is owned by French firm PPR.

At issue was Senda's illegal use of Gucci's GG logo on its footwear.

Copycat goods in China, from clothing to DVDs and films, have long angered European and US firms.

Shanghai Yaohan Department store was told to cease selling the shoes immediately but was not fined.

Gucci had asked for compensation of 610,000 yuan in total from the store and the Chinese brand - far above the 180,000 yuan it received.

Separately on Tuesday, luxury footwear brand Gina won a case against UK shoe chain Moda in Pelle, which sold copycat versions of Gina's designs.

It won £100,000 in compensation and £150,000 in legal costs.
