Profits and sales at online clothes retailer ASOS have more than doubled as its fashion shopping website continues to grow in popularity.

ASOS made an annual profit of 3.4m on sales of 42.6m, with about two million visits per month to its website.

ASOS - which stands for As Seen On Screen - targets 18 to 34 year olds with its fashion products, styled on clothing worn by celebrities.

Sales in the 13 weeks of the new financial year were up 85%, it added.

Richard Ratner, a retail analyst at Seymour Pierce, said that "its growth record, its market positioning and its future prospects" were encouraging.
