Fee cash machine taskforce set up

More than four in 10 cash machines charge a fee
The effect on poorer consumers of the spread of cash machines which charge a fee for withdrawing money is to be examined by a new taskforce.

In addition, the transparency of warning signs attached to fee-charging cash machines will also be monitored.

Banks, cash machine providers and consumer groups will take part in the initiative.

The taskforce will be headed by John McFall MP, chairman of the powerful Treasury Select Committee.

The number of charging cash machines has risen sharply in recent years to about 40% of the entire UK network.
