PS3 delay hits Game Group shares

Game stores will want to get PS3's on the shelves before Christmas
Shares in games retailer Game Group have fallen by almost 5% on news that Sony's new PS3 console will not be launched until November.

By the close on Wednesday, its shares were 4.9% lower at 77.5p.

Some analysts say the delayed launch could mean Game struggles to get many PS3s on its shelves for the key Christmas sales period.

They say European retailers often see supply shortages as Japanese and US markets get preferential treatment.

Game will also miss out on the income it would have earned from the new games to go with the PS3 console.

David Stoddart, an analyst with brokers Teather and Greenwood, said the delay was bad news for Game.

"They are left to rely on Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Revolution and are going to be missing an important piece of kit and a reason for people to buy.

"They are talking about a launch in November, but whether that is a simultaneous launch around the globe remains to be seen."
