Trains to buses group Go-Ahead has thanked an increase in passengers for a slight rise in half year profits.

For the six months to 1 January, its pre-tax profit was £49.6m compared with £47m for the same period a year before.

Turnover was up to £637.9m from £633.8m. Go-Ahead's main area of operations is across London and the south east of England.

Its subsidiaries include trains firms Thameslink and Southern, and bus companies in Brighton and Oxford.

In addition to its train and bus interests, Go-Ahead also operates airline baggage-handling services, and parking facilities.

"The proven quality of management at Go-Ahead's operating companies, coupled with strong cash flow and continuing strategic opportunities, will provide a firm basis for the future," said Go-Ahead chairman Sir Patrick Brown.
