Of all the cliches trotted out after Christmas, few are wearier than "new year, new job".
Weary, but true: the notion of changing career mid-stream is becoming ever more attractive, with something like one-quarter of British workers thinking of taking the plunge this year.
So as a service to readers, BBC News is planning to profile people at work in a vast range of careers, letting them show in their own words and pictures just what their job entails.
Not all the jobs will be fabulously glamorous - some may be downright dowdy. But the intention is to give a first-hand impression of what they're like.

And if you'd like your job to be featured later on in the series, keep reading.
So just what do you do all day? Whether you're a vulcanologist, a vet or a viola player, we want to hear from you.
