Violence returns to the streets of Bangkok

Violence has escalated in Bangkok where security forces have been trying to clear an area held by anti-government protestors.

A renegade Thai general who backs anti-government protesters was shot by a sniper. Major General Khattiya Sawadispol was taken to hospital after he was shot in the head and seriously injured.

Thai troops have surrounded the tens of thousands of Red Shirt demonstrators who have been occupying the capital for two months.
