As many as 20 homes have been destroyed in wildfires which have swept an area north of Perth in Australia.

The houses were destroyed in and around the township of Toodyay, 80 kilometres (50 miles) northeast of Perth.

The wildfire season is peaking across much of Australia although parts of New South Wales have been flooded by recent heavy rain.
