Kazakhstan's OSCE watchdog role raises concerns

Human rights groups have expressed concern that Kazakhstan will take the chair of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) next month.

The OSCE's mandate is to promote democracy and human rights and to resolve regional conflicts.

The appointment has led to questions about Kazakhstan's own record for fostering democratic rights at home.
