Whale freed from net

A humpback whale caught in a shark control net off a Queensland beach has been freed after a frantic rescue effort.

Marine rescue teams took about three hours to release the eight metre-long whale.

Rescuers said the operation had become tricky in the final stages, but the whale did not appear to have been harmed.

A spokesman said the whale had been in the net for some time before it was spotted by lifesavers.
