UN chief meets Burma junta head

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has been holding talks with Burma's military leader, General Than Shwe, at the start of a two-day visit to the country.

It is thought Mr Ban has called for the release of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and discussed the fate of more than 2,000 political prisoners.

It is not clear whether he will meet Ms Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate, who has spent much of the past two decades in prison or under house arrest.

Her trial has been adjourned again. Helen Fawkes reports.
