Archaeologists have restarted excavations at the famous terracotta army site in China's ancient capital of Xian after a break of 20 years.
They are working in a pit which has already yielded more than 1,000 warrior figures, according to the state news agency, Xinhua.
They hope to learn more about how the statues were made and why.
The BBC's Anna Holligan reports.
