Celebrations mark Thai festival

Thousands of people have marked Thailand's annual Loi Krathong festival held on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month.

The festival marks the start of Thailand's holiday season.

Extra police and soldiers were on duty amid government warnings of possible attacks by anti-government protesters.

In the country's second largest city of Chiang Mai, people released thousands of balloon-like lanterns which illuminated the sky.
