Indonesia concert crush kills 10
Victims of a stampede at a hospital in Bandung, 9 February 2008
Most of the victims are said to have been teenagers
Ten people have died while trying to escape a crush at a punk rock concert in Indonesia.

The disaster occurred when music fans tried to leave a concert hall in the city of Bandung as hundreds of others were surging in, witnesses said.

Most of the victims are said to have been teenagers, and concert organisers are being questioned by police.

The venue had more than twice as many people inside as was permitted, local media suggested.

"Outside, there were hundreds of people pushing to enter," one 19-year-old witness told the local Pikiran Rakyat newspaper.

"They were pushing at the gate.

"Inside, there were also a lot of people who wanted to leave, because the hall was so packed that it was difficult to breathe."

There were reports that concert organisers may have distributed free alcoholic drinks during the event.

"When the concert finished, those who were drunk went amok, kicking everything," another witness told Reuters TV.

"Those in the middle of the crowd were crushed and trampled."

Several people were reported injured.

There have been a number of deadly stampedes at concerts in Indonesia in recent years.
