Kyrgyz Uighur killed

A leading member of Kyrgyzstan's Uighur community, Nigmat Bazakov, has been shot dead outside his home in the capital, Bishkek.

Police say his attackers escaped by car.

The motive for the shooting is not known.

Mr Bazakov, the head of the Kyrgyz Uighur Cultural Association, was also a prominent businessman. There are about 20,000 Uighurs living in Kyrgyzstan, many of whom still retain cultural and business links with their former homeland across the border in northwest China.
