Women's role in Cambodian media criticised
A media body in Cambodia has sharply criticised the way in which women are represented in local newspapers and on television. A two-year study, conducted by the Women's Media Centre, found that women were usually portrayed as victims of accidents or as sex objects and rarely in positive roles. The centre has called on editors, journalists and the government to drop the negative stereotypes of women and concentrate instead on highlighting their achievements.
