The wife of an Indonesian militant accused of involvement in the deadly Bali bombings in 2002 has been arrested in the Philippines, officials say.

Estidia Pitoni, wife of Dulmatin, was captured on the southern island of Jolo with two children, officials said.

Dulmatin is widely believed to be in the southern Philippines, with the Muslim separatist group Abu Sayyaf.

Ms Pitoni is likely to face charges of violating immigration laws, Philippine intelligence officials said.

"We're not aware of her links with some of the deadly bombing activities of her husband's group," one official was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

She and two children, aged six and eight, were captured in an army raid on a house in the mountainous town of Patikul on Wednesday, officials said.

Her arrest has strengthened military reports that Dulmatin is still in hiding on the island of Jolo with local militants.

Dulmatin is believed to be a senior member of the regional militant group, Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

He has been accused of planning and executing the Bali attacks that killed 202 people and has a $10m bounty on his head.

The Philippine authorities believe both he and another wanted Indonesian terror suspect, Umar Patek, are helping to train Abu Sayyaf members to carry out bomb attacks.
