6 dead after shoot out in Uzbekistan

The authorities in Uzbekistan say three policemen and three forestry workers have been killed in a gunbattle with an armed gang.

Reports say the clash took place after the gunmen occupied a tourist base in the hills near the town of Yangiabad, about fifty kilometres from the capital, Tashkent.

Police have sealed off roads leading to the area.

Is not known who the gang were or where they came from.
