There are five candidates standing for president including the incumbent, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has held the post for the past 14 years.

Analysts consider his biggest rival to be Zharmakhan Tuyakbai who is standing for the main opposition party, For a Just Kazakhstan.

The panel has been selected from as wide a cross-section of people as possible and may not be representative of wider public opinion.
