Court rejects Bali bomber appeal
Amrozi
Amrozi was dubbed the 'smiling bomber'
Indonesia's Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence on one of the men convicted over the 2002 Bali bombing.

Lawyers for Amrozi said they would next file a judicial review, a process which could take months.

Two other men have been sentenced to death and 26 others to between three years and life imprisonment in connection with the Bali attacks.

More than 200 people, mainly foreigners, were killed in the attack on two crowded nightclubs.

Amrozi was the first suspect to be sentenced to death for the Bali bombings.

Dubbed the "smiling bomber" for his apparent indifference to victims of the attacks, he was found guilty last August of buying the equipment and van used in the attacks.

During his trial, the 41-year-old mechanic said he was proud of his role in the attacks, and claimed he would be "happy to die as a martyr".

But Amrozi's lawyers insisted he did not deserve the death sentence, saying he was only a minor player in the bombings.

The other two men sentenced to death, Amrozi's elder brother Mukhlas and a man called Imam Samudra, are also appealing to the supreme court.

All three previously had their appeals rejected in a lower court.
