The raid was part of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Mr Anwar, who was arrested in September and charged with ten counts of illegal sex and corruption.

Mr Anwar is currently being tried on four charges of corruption, which he denies.

Mr Nallakaruppan, better known in Malaysia as Nalla, had also been accused of leaking state secrets.

Police claimed during his trial that Nalla's alleged activities with regard to Mr Anwar "could expose the nation's leadership to evil influences within the country and outside the country which could jeopardise national security".

Nalla was arrested on 3 September, one day after Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad fired Mr Anwar on the grounds of "immorality".

Mr Anwar, who was arrested on 20 September, claims the charges against him and his associate were part of a conspiracy by his political enemies.
