Managers blamed for Chinese mining disaster

Official reports in China say police have arrested a group of officials in connection with a mining disaster in which at least 80 people died.

State media said four top regional officials along with 11 mine managers have been arrested.

They now face charges of negligence and covering up the accident in the southwestern Guangxi region last July.

Correspondents say the disaster had become a national controversy when people accused the state-controlled media of covering up the true extent of the accident.
