As the Indonesian parliament voted to censure President Abdurrahman Wahid for alleged corruption thousands of supporters braved torrential rain to protest on the streets of the capital, Jakarta.
The move paves the way for an impeachment of Mr Wahid who appealed to his supporters not to resort to violence.
