Taiwan and China have had tense relations since the Communists drove the nationalists off the mainland more than 50 years ago.

Hugely outnumbered, Taiwan has relied on hi-tech weaponry to discourage China from invading the island.

Taiwan showed off some of its arsenal in war games on Friday, ahead of a US decision on whether to sell more hi-tech weapons to Taipei.
