Indonesia Singapore pipeline unveiled
A multibillion dollar gas pipeline bringing gas to Singapore from Indonesia's Natuna field in the South China Sea has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Goh Chok-tong and Indonesia's president, Abdurrahman Wahid. At a ceremony to launch the project Mr Goh said that Singapore's participation signalled its confidence in Indonesia and that both countries should show mutual respect for each other. The move came as Mr Wahid visited Singapore for the first time since his criticims of the city-state in November strained relations between the two countries. Mr Wahid accused Singapore's senior minister Lee Kwan-yew of being contemptuous of Malays, and said the city cared only about profit, not about its neighbours.
