Indonesian civil servants get pay rise

Civil servants in Indonesia are due to receive a major pay rise from January.

The head of the body in charge of the civil service the State Administration Agency, Priyono Cittroheriyano told the BBC that the salaries of the lowest-paid officials would go up, from the current rate of around eight dollars a month to more than fifty-five dollars a month.

Correspondents say there has been pressure on the government to raise salaries, which were not sufficient to cover the cost of living. However, two ministers in the economic team have denied reports that all civil servants would get a six-hundred percent pay hike.
