Carbomb explodes near Cali army base

A car bomb has exploded near an army base in the Colombian city of Cali.

Reports say that at least four passers-by were injured and surrounding buildings were damaged.

The army base commander General Jaime Ernesto Canal said that the army believed the attack was the work of Colombia's second- largest guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army ELN.

The army has been carrying out searches in the mountainous area around Cali for hostages taken from several restaurants outside the city, by the left wing rebel group. As many as eighty hostages were taken but almost half have since been released
