Bossa Nova star dies

One of Brazil's leading musicians and composers, Baden Powell, has died in Rio de Janeiro.

He was sixty-three.

Powell, who was one of the leading proponents of the bossa nova style of music, began making a living as a guitar player at the age of thirteen.

He toured Europe in the nineteen-seventies and lived in both France and Germany before returning to Brazil three years ago.

He had been in hospital for several weeks, reportedly suffering breathing problems.
