Prison inmates could be trained to help clean up wildlife affected by the oil slick off the Louisiana coast, State Governor Bobby Jindal has said.
In a news conference, US Secretary for Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said BP needed help to combat the slick, and all available resources should be used "to the greatest effect".
The Environmental Protection Agency's Lisa Jackson said she wanted to involve "those who know these coastlines like the back of their hands".
