McChrystal: 'We have clarity in Afghanistan'

Gen Stanley McChrystal, the US commander in Afghanistan, has welcomed the decision to deploy 30,000 American troops to the country.

The Taliban say they will step up their fight in Afghanistan, after pledges to send large reinforcements to the country.

Gen McChrystal, speaking to US troops in the southern Afghan city of Kandhar, said: "We are here to provide the government of Afghanistan and our Afghan partners time, space and capability to defend their sovereignty."
