Barack Obama commits 30,000 extra troops to Afghanistan

US President Barack Obama has delivered a speech outlining his review of Afghan strategy.

In a national televised address, Mr Obama committed to a surge of 30,000 additional US troops saying: "I do not make this decision lightly".

Mr Obama believes the surge will help prepare the handover to Afghan forces and urged allies to also send more troops.
