Argentina says Britain violates airspace

The Argentine government has accused British aircraft of violating its airspace near the disputed Falkland Islands.

A foreign ministry statement issued in Buenos Aires said jets from the British navy had taken off from a base on the Falklands and had flown over several Argentine fishing boats which, it said, were in Argentinian waters.

The statement added that Argentina would be protesting to London over the incident.

Diplomatic relations between Britain and Argentina, who went to war over the islands in 1982, were restored ten years ago and trade ties are flourishing.

But correspondents say management of fish stocks in the South Atlantic is a contentious issue.
