Brazil fireworks blast kills two

Brazil map

At least two people have been killed and more than a dozen injured in a blast at a fireworks shop on the outskirts of Sao Paulo in Brazil.

The powerful explosion hit the town of Santo Andre.

It overturned cars and destroyed at least four houses surrounding the building where the fireworks were stored.

Authorities are investigating whether the store's owners had the permits needed to be holding explosives.

Television footage showed firemen with rescue dogs searching through a swathe of rubble amid houses destroyed by the large blast.

The explosion occurred just after midday.

Early reports said that as many as 10 people had been killed, but this figure was later reduced.
