Forest fires, with flames as high as 70 feet, have been raging in La Canada Flintridge, 12 miles north-east of downtown Los Angeles.
Almost one thousand homes have been put under voluntary evacuation orders.
Planes have been dropping water over the fires in a bid to contain them.
Residents and Forestry Service workers have given their reaction to the wildfires.
