A wake has been held for family and close friends to mark the death of US Senator Edward Kennedy.

The event, which took place at the John F Kennedy Library and Museum, was described as a "celebration of life".

These highlights show contributions to the event by Edward Kennedy's nephew Joseph Kennedy, former presidential candidates John Kerry and John McCain, Vice President Joe Biden, and Edward Kennedy's niece Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.

Three days of ceremonies to commemorate Mr Kennedy began on Thursday with a private family Mass at the family property in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
