Obama awards medals of freedom

President Obama has awarded the United States' highest honour for civilians to 16 people, including Stephen Hawking, the Cambridge University physicist and mathematician.

The legendary actor Sidney Poitier and the retired Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa were also among the other "agents of change" to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House ceremony.
