Gay marriage controversy in the US


Maine has become the latest US state to endorse gay marriage but gay rights campaigners face an uphill battle to have civil unions accepted across the country.

A ban on gay marriage has recently been upheld in California, while national law decrees marriage can only be between a man and a woman.

Philippa Thomas reports from Maine.
