UN urges Congolese rebels

To follow DR Congo Masire United Nations peace-keepers in northern Congo have been trying to persuade a rebel faction backed by Rwanda to leave the city of Kisangani.

The rebels, from the Congolese Rally for Democracy, say they are not bound by an agreement that was signed by Rwanda and Uganda to withdraw their troops from the city.

This followed a week of fighting between the two armies which left over five hundred people dead.
