Obama reaches out to Iran

President Barack Obama has issued a video address to the leaders and people of Iran, offering them a new relationship with the United States.

The direct appeal was timed to mark the Iranian New Year holiday, Nowruz, which began on Friday.

Mr Obama said he was committed to diplomacy and pursuing constructive ties with Iran, but only if its leaders dropped what he called the language of threats.
