The US has accused China of sending ships to harass one of its surveillance vessels in international waters in the South China Sea.

The Pentagon said one of the boats came within a few metres of the unarmed USNS Impeccable and tried to sabotage its underwater listening equipment.

In response, Chinese authorities have accused the US of conducting an illegal survey.

Emma North reports.
