Fires threaten Mexico City
The Mexican authorities say fires raging in mountain forests outside Mexico City are threatening to become a major environmental disaster. Officials say the fires are the most extensive in the area for more than ten years and the smell of smoke has been hanging over a large part of the city. Hundreds of firefighters, government workers and volunteers have been struggling to control the blaze which has spread over more than three-hundred-and-fifty hectares of land.
