Obama defends lipstick reference

Barack Obama has defended the comments he made comparing John McCain's promises of change to putting "lipstick on a pig".

The comments were said by Republicans to be a reference to Sarah Palin's joke that hockey moms were like pitbulls with lipstick.

But Barak Obama accused John McCain's campaign of 'phoney and foolish diversions'.
