Limbs found in Brazil body search

Police in Brazil are examining a leg and two arms they believe belong to a British teenager murdered in the country, according to reports.

The torso of Cara Marie Burke, 17, from south London, was found last week in a suitcase in the city of Goiania.

On Sunday a local man found a leg near the town of Bonfinopolis, about 30km from Goiania, said Brazilian media.

The arms were found in bags in the same area, near where police say a suspect said he threw them.

Police said they had not yet recovered the missing head and the other leg.

Last week Goias state police said Mohamed D'Ali Carvalho dos Santos, 20, had admitted murdering Miss Burke.

After his arrest the suspect told the BBC he and Ms Burke had been "friends". Asked if he killed her, he replied "not exactly".

Reports said an unemployed man found a left leg in a small stream as he walked home on Sunday. Its DNA was to be compared with that of Miss Burke's, said the AFP news agency.

At the weekend police said they were also continuing to search for a second man alleged to have helped to dispose of the body.

Detectives say Mr Santos gave an incorrect name for both the man and the type of car he was driving, but they had now learned his correct identity.

Mr Santos has been charged with homicide.

Police believe Mr Santos was living in London during 2006 and 2007, and returned to Brazil this year.

Officers believe Miss Burke may have travelled to the country to marry Mr Santos to secure him a visa.
