Giuliani: Business as usual
Giuliani denies Newsweek report about resignation
Mr Giuliani says Newsweek is wrong
New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has denied a report in Newsweek magazine that he is to pull out of the race for the US Senate.

Mr Giuliani, who has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer, told journalists that the Newsweek report was false and he did not know where the magazine got its facts from.

He said he would be meeting doctors and would then discuss with his friends and advisers what to do next.

I'm considering all the options that exist

He told journalists that he was not under pressure from the Republican Party following his diagnosis but added that he was under personal pressure to make a decision.

Newsweek speculation

Newsweek's Monday edition, citing unidentified sources, reported that Mr Giuliani had decided two weeks ago that he would undergo a time-consuming course of treatment for his prostate cancer.

The report added that this would mean his pulling out of the contest to win the Republican candidacy for New York State's Senate seat.

Mr Giuliani has been considered the Republican candidate best placed to contest the seat against First Lady Hillary Clinton on the Democrat ticket.

New York has been shaken in recent weeks not only by the news of Mr Giuliani's cancer, but also by his announcement that he and his wife, actress and broadcaster Donna Hanover, are to separate.

She publicly accused him of having had an affair with a former City Hall aide.

The mayor denies that but has acknowledged a relationship with another woman, Judith Nathan.
