Candidates have been reacting to Senator John McCain's narrow victory over Mitt Romney in the Republican primary in Florida.
Rudy Giuliani appeared to be on the verge of withdrawing from the race
Senator Hillary Clinton won the Democratic contest, although the results will not count because of an internal party row.
JOHN MCCAIN, ARIZONA SENATOR
"Thank you, Florida Republicans, for bringing a former Florida resident across the finish line first in - as I have been repeatedly reminded lately - an all Republican primary.
My friends, in one week we will have as close to a national primary as we have ever had in this country. I intend to win it, and be the nominee of our party."
RUDY GIULIANI, FORMER NEW YORK MAYOR
"Like most Americans I love competition. I don't back down from a principal fight, but there must always be a larger purpose.
Justice for an individual, hope for a city, a better future for our country. Elections are about a lot more than just a candidate. Elections are about fighting for a cause larger than ourselves.
They are about identifying the great challenges of our time and about proposing new solutions. Most of all they're about handing our nation to the next generation better than it was handed to us."
MITT ROMNEY, EX-MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR
"You guys are my heroes. You took this campaign from
nowhere to the very top tier. You worked your hearts out, and
you made me a contender."
MIKE HUCKABEE, FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR
"It's not even close to being over. We like to believe we are just getting started.
For those of you that think I should be discouraged, let
me just remind you that going into tonight, we were second in
delegate count and, more importantly, we're playing all nine
innings of this ballgame."
HILLARY CLINTON, NEW YORK SENATOR
"I am convinced that with this resounding vote, with the millions of Americans who will vote next Tuesday, we will send a clear message that America is back and we will take charge of our destiny once again."
BARACK OBAMA CAMPAIGN EMAIL
"Obama, Hillary tie for delegates in Florida tonight with 0 each."
