Voters' Views: Susan Sims
As the US gears up for the first major presidential election events of 2008 in Iowa and New Hampshire, we asked a panel of six Iowans to tell us who they will be voting for in their state caucus on 3 January, and why.

Would that every president were so honest as to admit wrong.

"I support Mitt Romney for his leadership, service and achievement, tolerance for people of all types, love of country and constitution, personal integrity, and devotion to family values.

Critics complain Romney acts most like a president, speaks too eloquently, has boundless energy, and changes his mind. Indeed, they are correct, and our nation would do well to elect him.

Charges of "flip-flopping" ring hollow when facts show Romney has changed position after doing research or experiencing moments of truth; would that every president were so honest as to admit wrong.

To evangelical Christians who refuse to consider Romney on religious grounds, I quote the sixth article of our Constitution: " . . . no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

I trust Romney to defend the rights of all citizens, not just those who agree with him."

We want to hear what you think, so send us your comments using the forms at the bottom of the panel's updated views.

The readers' panel has been selected from as wide a cross-section of people as possible and may not be representative of wider US public opinion.

Your comments:

I agree wholeheartedly with Ms. Sims. Obama would be my second choice. The only reason I would be hesitant to vote for him is because he has very little experience in government at this time. It is imperative the next president understands global diplomacy, and that only comes with experience.

Mitt Romney is the best Republican candidate. While he is not perfect, no one is, I know that he will be the best for the U.S. economy. Romney will also listen to others that disagree with him and will be willing to work with the Democrats to get things done.
William Davidson, Iowa, USA

As a Mormon, I don't trust Romney one bit. I think Edwards is the one who really believes in what he says and he is the only candidate that cares for the average American.
