Man pleads guilty in US base plot

Officials say there is no evidence of links to international terror networks

A man is facing up to five years' prison after pleading guilty to providing weapons to a group of men plotting to attack a US military base.

Agron Abdullahu, 27, was one of six men arrested in May over the planned attack on Fort Dix army base in New Jersey.

Abdullahu, a US resident, is due to be sentenced on 6 February. Lawyers say he had the smallest role in the plot.

The five others have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to kill military personnel and face trial in January.

They could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty.

'Against Islam'

Prosecutors say the group planned to use automatic weapons to kill as many US soldiers as possible.

But the government said Abdullahu had told the others it was against Islam to kill civilians, and it would be "crazy" to attack Fort Dix.

The men allegedly trained in weapons use in the Pocono Mountains area of north-eastern Pennsylvania.

But officials have said there is no evidence of links to international terror networks.

Four of the men - including Abdullahu - were born in the former Yugoslavia, one in Turkey and one in Jordan. All are aged in their 20s.

Fort Dix is used for military training, particularly for reservists.
