New sentence for Chile spy chief

Contreras is already serving multiple prison sentences

Manuel Contreras, who headed Chile's security forces under General Augusto Pinochet's regime, has been sentenced to a further 15 years in jail.

He was convicted of masterminding the abduction and murder of a left-wing opponent, Jorge D'Orival, in 1974.

A judge found Contreras guilty of ordering abduction of the student, last seen alive at the notorious Villa Grimaldi detention centre.

Contreras is already serving prison sentences for torture and kidnapping.

However, several of the cases against Contreras are still subject to appeal.

Around 3,000 people were killed during Gen Pinochet's time in office, between 1973 and 1990.

Pinochet died in December last year, with numerous human rights charges still pending against him.
