An inmate on death row in the US has been granted a 90-day stay of execution after his lawyers argued that several witnesses had changed their testimony.
Troy Davis, 38, was convicted of killing policeman Mark MacPhail in the car park of a fast-food restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, in 1989.
The Georgia parole board reviewed evidence from his lawyers during a clemency hearing.
Davis was due to have been executed by lethal injection on Tuesday.
The board has until mid-October to rule on Davis's fate.
"Those representing Troy Anthony Davis have asserted that they can and will present live witnesses and other evidence... to support their contention that there remains some doubt as to his guilt," it said in a statement.
Davis was sentenced to death in 1991 for the shooting of off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail.
